About FinGrid

We build payroll the way
South African employers
actually run it.

PayGrid is a South African payroll platform built by FinGrid — designed around real BCEA rules, real SARS filings, and the real way you already work. No imported logic from overseas vendors. No paying extra for local compliance. Just payroll that gets it right the first time, from Cape Town to Polokwane.

Most payroll software
was never built for here.

Small and medium South African businesses have been forced to choose between two bad options. Either import a global payroll platform and spend hours every month patching in things it gets wrong — like UIF ceilings, SDL exemptions, public holiday rules, and BCEA leave entitlements — or run payroll on a spreadsheet and hope SARS doesn’t come calling.

Neither option is serious. Both leak money, time, and trust. The 2024 Labour Market Dynamics report showed over 2.6 million small employers in South Africa. We built PayGrid for the ones who deserve tools that speak their language — and their tax code.

Compliance isn’t a feature.
It’s the foundation.

Every calculation in PayGrid starts from the primary sources: the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, the Income Tax Act, the UIF Contributions Act, the Skills Development Levies Act, and SARS’s own EMP201 and EMP501 submission formats. When the law changes, we change. When SARS updates a form, we update with it.

That’s why PayGrid generates pixel-perfect UI-19 declarations for Labour, hands you EMP201 and EMP501 reconciliations that match what eFiling expects, and enforces BCEA leave rules by default — not as an afterthought.

Your team already
uses WhatsApp.
So payroll should too.

PayGrid is the only South African payroll platform with a native WhatsApp bot. Employees apply for leave, check their balance, download payslips and view the leave calendar — all without logging into anything. Employers approve leave, pull reports, and process payroll on behalf of staff from the same chat window they’re already in all day.

It’s the single biggest quality-of-life upgrade we’ve shipped. Not because it’s clever — because it’s how South African workplaces actually communicate.

What we believe

Four principles that show up in every pull request, every support ticket, and every line of PAYE we calculate.

i.

Local first, always.

If it doesn’t work for a restaurant in Bloemfontein, a construction firm in Durban, or a farm in Mpumalanga, it doesn’t ship. We pressure-test against real South African payroll edge cases — not a US tutorial.

ii.

Compliance on rails.

The correct thing should be the easy thing. UIF caps, SDL exemptions, BCEA leave formulas, public holiday adjustments — all baked in. You shouldn’t need a CPA to run month-end.

iii.

No black boxes.

Every payslip shows its working. Every EMP201 shows the ledger rows behind it. Every leave approval is audit-logged. When SARS asks, you have receipts.

iv.

Built to evolve.

Payroll law changes. So does the way teams communicate. We ship updates continuously and we listen — most of what you see today was suggested by employers running PayGrid on live payrolls.

We started PayGrid because we got tired of watching South African employers spend three hours doing something that should take fifteen minutes. Payroll isn’t the interesting part of running a business — so we made it the easy part.

The company

FinGrid (Pty) Ltd
a small team, a sharp focus.

FinGrid is a South African company registered at fingrid.co.za. We build and operate PayGrid end-to-end: the engineering, the compliance, the WhatsApp bot, the support. No outsourced help desks, no white-labelled tech. You talk to the people who wrote the code.

We’re small on purpose. Smaller team, fewer layers, faster fixes. When a customer flags a BCEA edge case on a Tuesday afternoon, it’s usually in production by Friday.

POPIA-compliant Data processed and stored in South Africa
SARS-aligned formats EMP201, EMP501, IRP5/IT3(a), UI-19
BCEA-correct by default Leave, overtime, public holidays
WhatsApp-native Official Meta Business API integration
